Biden campaign mulls using TikTok amid security concerns: report
His campaign has yet to join the platform, however, though the prospects for reaching younger voters have been a key consideration.
The Biden campaigning is considering whether to make a TikTok account, despite mounting security concerns presented by parent company ByteDance's close relationship with the Chinese government.
His campaign has yet to join the platform, however, though the prospects for reaching younger voters have been a key consideration, Axios reported, citing "two people familiar with the conversations."
Security concerns have prompted a litany of states to bar the app's use on official devices while Montana in May of this year banned the app from operating within its borders, prompting a suit from the company. Under the legislation, app stores may not offer TikTok for download within Montanan territory.
Should Biden opt to join TikTok, he would not be the only presidential candidate to do so. Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy defended his use of the platform during the last debate by highlighting young voter consumption of political content.
That exchange led to a tense altercation with former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley after Ramaswamy pointed out that her daughter used the app.
"The next generation of Americans are using it and that's actually the point," Ramaswamy said.
