Biden to meet with 'Tennessee 3' at White House
Both Jones and Pearson returned to the legislature after their respective county commissions voted to reappoint them to their old seats.
President Joe Biden will meet three Tennessee state lawmakers whom Republicans attempted to oust from the legislature over their conduct during a gun control protest at the state capitol.
Tennessee state Reps. Gloria Johnson, Justin Jones, and Justin Pearson will visit the White House on Monday and meet with Biden, Politico reported.
"Earlier this month, the president spoke to them by phone after they were subjugated to expulsion votes in the Tennessee Statehouse for peacefully protesting in support of stronger gun safety laws following the shooting at Covenant School in Nashville," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday. "During that call, the president thanked them for their leadership in seeking to ban assault weapons and standing up for the democratic values."
"The president looks forward to continuing that discussion when they all meet with him on Monday," she continued.
Jones and Pearson lost their seats after state lawmakers voted to expel them for violating chamber rules. Johnson avoided expulsion by a single vote. The trio approached the podium of the chamber during the protest and used a bullhorn to encourage protesters outside the building who sought gun control reforms after a Nashville mass shooting.
That incident involved a transgender individual who killed three students and three faculty members at a Christian school.
