Biden plans video campaign announcement for next week: report

President Joe Biden is reportedly planning to formally announce his reelection campaign next week with the release of a video.

Slated for Tuesday, the video's publication will line up with the four-year anniversary of his 2020 campaign announcement, the Washington Post reported, citing "people briefed on the plans."

Biden has been clear that he intends to seek reelection and merely has not made the formal declaration of his candidacy. Polling data, however, suggests that the decision may be at odds with the wishes of most Democrats. A Monmouth University survey showed that just 25% of Democrats wanted him to pursue a second term.

Thus far, Biden has faced few direct challenges for the Democratic nomination, with only author Marianne Williamson and lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announcing their bids.

Kennedy officially kicked off his campaign this week and survey data suggests that 14% of Biden voters support him over the president. Any bid to unseat Biden as the party nominee will likely be an uphill battle, however.

The White House has declined to comment on the matter, with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre telling reporters that "any announcement or anything that is related to 2024 certainly will not come from here."
