'Biden is toast': Politico runs quotes of Democrats declaring debate a disaster before it's over

One of Washington's most prominent political outlets ran an article highlighting the negative reactions from Democratic operatives toward President Joe Biden's debate performance.

"‘Biden is toast — calling it now’: Biden stumbles, rambles in opening of debate," the headline read. The quote itself came from New Hampshire Democratic activist Jay Surdukowski.

Included within the story were texts and pronouncements from other Democratic operatives panning Biden's misspeaking and raspy speech.

“Biden seems to have needed a few minutes to warm up," one said. "I wonder if the lack of an audience was the right decision. And poor guy needs a tea. Maybe a whiskey.”

“Time for an open convention," another said, suggesting the Democrats opt for a different nominee.

The outlet alerted the story during the middle of the debate.
