California Democrat in critical House race announces DUI citation
National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) considers the seat to rank among the most vulnerable for the 2024 House cycle and has seized on Min's announcement.
House candidate and State Sen. Dave Min, D-Calif., announced Wednesday that he had received a citation for driving under the influence (DUI), dealing a blow to Democratic prospects in a competitive House district as the battle for the lower chamber heats up.
"Last night I was cited for a misdemeanor for driving under the influence. My decision to drive last night was irresponsible," Min wrote in a Facebook post. "I accept full responsibility and there is no excuse for my actions. To my family, constituents and supporters, I am so deeply sorry. I know I need to do better. I will not let this personal failure distract from our work in California and in Washington."
Min is currently running to succeed Democratic California Rep. Katie Porter, who has opted to pursue a Senate bid. He has also received Porter's endorsement in the race, Fox News reported.
National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) considers the seat to rank among the most vulnerable for the 2024 House cycle and has seized on Min's announcement. Spokesperson Ben Petersen issued a statement on Min's arrest, saying "[v]oters will rightfully question David Min’s judgement after this incident, but will California Democrats?"
