Canada announced on Friday that it would drop the retaliatory tariffs it imposed on the U.S. in response to President Donald Trump's imposition of import duties on Ottawa.

“As we work intensively with the United States, our focus is squarely on the strategic sectors,” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said, according to CNBC.

While the U.S. has yet to conclude of full deal with Canada, the development follows agreements with the UK, European Union, Japan, Vietnam, and a host of other Pacific Rim nations. India and Mexico rank as some of the most critical nations with which Trump has yet to finalize deals.

The U.S. reached a preliminary agreement with China earlier this year. Trump in April announced "Liberation Day" tariffs on nearly every nation in the world in a bid to address trade deficits and conditions that he perceived to be unfair to the U.S.
