Chairman of pro-RFK Jr. PAC says his campaign will pull from Dems, GOP equally
Lyons insisted the American public wants a unifying candidate outside of the established political parties and that Kennedy is the man who can claim that mantle.
Tony Lyons, the co-chairman of pro-Robert F. Kennedy Jr. PAC, on Tuesday indicated that internal polling saw him pulling votes from both Republican and Democrats in an equal manner.
Kennedy is expected to announce an independent campaign next week. He has to this point campaigned as a Democrat seeking to unseat President Joe Biden as the party's presumptive nominee. Frustrations with the Democratic National Committee, however, have motivated him to pursue a bid outside their purview.
"[O]ne of the big points that the DNC has made, is that, you know, Bobby running ... hurts the DNC, and what what you can really see from the polling that we did is Bobby is taking equally from both sides," Lyons said on the "Just the News, No Noise" television show.
"[M]illions and millions of people are tired of being disenfranchised, and they're tired of being taken for granted," he asserted. "And they want to have real choice. So, I think that that's what you're seeing here is that Bobby is running as a candidate who would unify the country, that wants to bring people together to fight all of the common problems that need to be looked at [and] ... while the DNC is fighting the RNC, you know, nobody's really looking at what's best for the people of this country."
Lyons insisted the American public wants a unifying candidate outside of the established political parties and that Kennedy is the man who can claim that mantle.
"[H]e will have this big groundswell of people who just want to have a candidate that's not corrupt, that is not tied to any political party, not the RNC or the DNC, who, you know, for decades now have been just sort of in the pocket of big corporations," he said. "And the people in this country want somebody who's going to fight for them, not somebody who's going to fight for, you know, multibillion dollar corporations."
Kennedy is expected to officially announce his independent bid on Oct. 9. At present, he earns an average 14.9% against President Joe Biden in the Democratic primary, according to RealClearPolitics. The DNC has not scheduled any primary debates and Biden remains the presumptive nominee.
