Chip Roy, Mike Lee slam part of Senate version of NDAA that would have women register for the draft
The National Defense Authorization Act also includes a 4.5% raise for military members and a 2% raise for Department of Defense civilian workers.
Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, and Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, slammed a part of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee version of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2025 that would have women register for the draft.
On page three of the National Defense Authorization Act, under the heading of "Strengthening the Joint Force and Defense Workforce," the Military Selective Service Act would be amended "to require the registration of women for Selective Service."
"You can go straight to hell," Roy wrote on the social media platform, X in response to that part of the proposed NDAA. "Over my dead body."
Lee shared the same sentiment on social media.
"We Will Not Draft Women," Lee wrote on X. "I’m with @ChipRoyTX—this will happen over my dead body."
The National Defense Authorization Act also includes a 4.5% raise for military members and a 2% raise for Department of Defense civilian workers.
Former first son Donald Trump Jr. also criticized the move, stating "Democrats want to draft your daughters to fight the wars that no one in America outside of the military industrial complex wants to be in."
The bill was approved in the committee by a vote of 22-3.
