Christie-aligned groups encourage NH Dems to switch parties, back him in GOP primary

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's supportive organizations are working to convince Democrats in New Hampshire to switch parties and back the prominent critic of former President Donald Trump in the Republican primary.

New Hampshire is the second contest in the GOP's nominating process and the Granite State typically ranks high among candidate priorities due to the prospect of an early win to build momentum.

Though Christie trails many of his Republican rivals most polls, the Tell It Like It Is super PAC and American Leadership Today (ALT) hope to boost their preferred candidate by encouraging Democratic defections prior to the Oct. 6 deadline to switch parties, according to Politico.

Both groups have heavily invested in anti-Trump messaging and suggested that the former New Jersey governor represents the most palatable alternative to the former president.

An ALT spokesperson said they hoped to spread "awareness about available choices through a multi-faceted campaign and expanding voter participation in the Granite State’s proud First In The Nation primary process," per the outlet.

Christie currently holds 9.8% support in New Hampshire, according to RealClearPolitics. He stands behind Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Trump, who leads the field by an average 31.0%.
