Colin Allred on Monday dropped his bid for the Democratic Senate nomination in Texas in favor of a congressional bid.

The move comes in the wake of the Supreme Court upholding Texas's newly redrawn congressional maps that eliminated a number of Democratic-leaning seats in the state.

"In the past few days, I've come to believe that a bruising Senate Democratic Primary and runoff would prevent the Democratic Party from going into this critical election unified against the danger posed to our communities and our Constitution by Donald Trump and one of his Republican bootlickers Paxton, Cornyn, or Hunt," he said.

Allred's withdrawal likely paves the way for Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, who is expected to announce her campaign within weeks.
