House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer on Wednesday said that he was working to schedule testimonies from Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Attorney General Pam Bondi as part of his investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and his associates.

Lutnick has faced scrutiny over revelations that he visited Epstein's private island and dined with him in 2012, despite previously claiming to have severed relations with Epstein years before. Bondi, for her part, has come under fire for her handling of the issue and the sluggish release of the Epstein files.

"I’m in communication with them... We’re trying to get them in very, very soon," he told reporters. While the committee had to subpoena Bondi, Lutnick agreed to appear voluntarily. The committee's subpoena of Bondi, in particular, represents the latest break between House lawmakers and the White House on the issue.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., for her part, opined that Epstein was running an intelligence gathering "honeypot" operation, directly contradicting a memo from Kash Patel's FBI which said the bureau found no evidence of a blackmail ring.
