Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a leading figure among the Senate GOP's moderate lawmakers, has expressed confidence that Kash Patel, Trump's pick to serve as FBI director, will secure confirmation to the post.

“People I know and who I trust speak well of him and I’m looking forward to meeting with him,” Cornyn told radio host Hugh Hewitt. When pressed on whether Patel would be confirmed, Cornyn simply replied "yes, he will be." He also relayed that Pam Bondi, whom Trump has tapped to serve as Attorney General, spoke favorably to him about Patel.

A member of the Senate Intelligence Committee and Senate Judiciary Committee, Cornyn's support signals that many of the more moderate Republicans are open to his leading the bureau.

Patel has frustrated FBI insiders and backers of the Intelligence Community with his vocal criticisms of politicized investigations and talk of significant reform at the bureau.

Trump nominated him for the post amid talk that former Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., was in line for the job, which prompted the online hashtag #KashOnly to trend on X.
