NBA announces it will withhold pay from unvaccinated players who miss games

The NBA will withhold pay from players who are unvaccinated who miss a game this season as a result of COVID-19, according to reports.

According to The Hill, the professional sports organization adopted the new policy Wednesday night. 

“Any player who elects not to comply with local vaccination mandates will not be paid for games that he misses,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement.

This is just one of many new safety protocols instituted by the league in order to prevent transmission of the virus. 

While players have the option to get vaccinated or not, the new rules will prevent unvaccinated players from eating together as a team, and will require them to wear masks during team meetings. 

All players will have to submit weekly COVID tests, regardless of vaccination status. 

According to the league, roughly 90% of players are vaccinated.
