DC National Guard to aid police at pro-Israel march, mayor says
The demonstration comes in the wake of an Oct. 7 Hamas raid on Israeli territory that saw the terrorist group's forces storm border towns, seize roughly 200 hostages, and kill 1,200 civilians.
The Washington, D.C., National Guard will provide support to the Metropolitan Police Department during the March for Israel on Tuesday, Mayor Muriel Bowser confirmed.
"We expect a large gathering. We are paying attention to numbers of buses that are coming that are I think we can expect in the tens of thousands of people," Bowser said in a press conference. "They continue, we continue to monitor."
A coalition of Jewish organizations, led by the Jewish Federations of North America and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, is organizing the event, The Hill reported.
The demonstration comes in the wake of an Oct. 7 Hamas raid on Israeli territory that saw the terrorist group's forces storm border towns, seize roughly 200 hostages, and kill 1,200 civilians.
The attack sparked the ongoing conflict in Gaza that has seen Israeli forces invade the coastal region with the intent of ousting Hamas from power. The march further follows multiple demonstrations in support of Palestinians that have occurred in Washington, D.C.
