DCCC is fundraising off of Post Office woes
DelBene blamed DeJoy for cutting USPS services and "grinding our mail service to a halt."
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is fundraising off lingering problems at the Post Office, which allegedly stem from Republican intransigence.
"The United States Postal Service is one of our most important institutions," wrote DCCC Chair Rep. Suzan DelBene, D-Wa., in a fundraising email. "So nothing enrages me more than Republicans — like Louis DeJoy, Trump's hand-picked Postmaster General — who attack it."
The USPS Board of Governors in 2020, all members of which former President Donald Trump appointed, chose DeJoy to serve as Postmaster General. He was the first person to hold the office in decades who had no previous experience with the USPS.
DelBene blamed DeJoy for cutting USPS services and "grinding our mail service to a halt."
His appointment coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced a number of cost cutting measures at the agency and performance declines. Following congressional inquiries, a report from USPS Office of the Inspector General released that year determined that "Mr. DeJoy has met the ethics requirements related to disclosure, recusal, and divestment upon entering the position of Postmaster General."
The Washington Democrat went on to malign "extreme MAGA Republicans" for thwarting House Democratic efforts to secure greater funding for the USPS and contended that a restored Democratic majority was vital to addressing systemic issues in the USPS.
