As the public awaits a verdict from the Supreme Court on former President Donald Trump's removal from the ballot, the overwhelming majority of Democrats appear supportive of such a move.

The Supreme Court earlier this month heard arguments in Trump's appeal of the Colorado Supreme Court ruling disqualifying him from the presidential ballot on the basis of the 14th Amendment.

Survey data from Rasmussen Reports has indicated that the public is largely divided on the matter, with 47% of likely voters supporting the effort from state officials to remove Trump compared to 50% who disapprove.

Democrats, for their part, are much less divided, with 78% of them wanting the likely Republican nominee removed from the contest.

Conducted Feb. 8, 11-12, the survey questioned 880 likely U.S. voters and has a margin of sampling error of +/- 3%.

Colorado is not alone in attempting to boot Trump from the ballot, with Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows making a similar determination that his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot rendered him ineligible. Maine Superior Court Justice Michaela Murphy has deferred judgement in that matter until the Supreme Court rules in the Colorado case.
