DeSantis hits single digits in Republican primary: poll

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has fallen to single-digit support in his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, according to a recent survey.

The Florida governor on Monday placed second in Iowa, where he had invested heavily, and trailed former President Donald Trump by roughly 30 points. After the Caucus, both tech mogul Vivek Ramaswamy and former Arkansas GOP Gov. Asa Hutchinson dropped out of the race due to poor showings. Ramaswamy subsequently endorsed Trump.

DeSantis has refused thus far to drop out of the race, but a Messenger/Harris poll released Thursday suggests he may have little support to carry on in his campaign.

DeSantis earned 7% support among registered Republicans, trailing both former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who earned 13%, and former President Donald Trump, who led with 72%.

The results mark on of the most thorough consolidation of the Republican field yet. Trump on average enjoys 63.1% support, according to RealClearPolitics. Haley places second with 11.8% while DeSantis earns 10.3%.

Conducted Jan. 16-17, the survey questioned 1,045 registered voters, including 373 Republicans, and has a margin of error of +/- 3.0%.
