DeSantis rejects 'inaccurate' reports of campaign launch
DeSantis currently stands as the second place contender for the Republican nomination in most polls.
Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has denied reports of a planned presidential campaign launch.
His remarks follow reports from NBC News and Bloomberg indicating that the Florida governor was preparing to announce his campaign in mid-May and early June, respectively.
"If there’s any announcements, those will come at the appropriate time," the governor said Thursday during a visit to Israel, according to The Hill. "But if anyone’s telling you that somehow they know this or they know that, that’s just inaccurate because there’s not been any decisions made."
DeSantis currently stands as the second place contender for the Republican nomination in most polls, should he opt to join the race. The RealClearPolitics polling average assigns him 23.0% support, well behind former President Donald Trump's 51.3% but meaningfully ahead of any other declared or would-be candidate.
Though he through cold water on reports of a campaign launch, the governor has long attracted attention as a potential candidate and his own, high-profile activities have fueled such speculation. the governor made his remarks in Israel as part of a major international tour that also includes Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
