Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said that if he is elected president he will fire Special Counsel Jack Smith "on day one."

“I think that a guy like me as the nominee will be able to keep the focus on Biden, keep the focus on the Democrats’ failures,” DeSantis said during a Fox News interview. "But then, more importantly, after you win the election, start holding these people accountable who have weaponized the legal system to go after their political enemies.”

“And that starts with day one, firing somebody like Jack Smith," he added. "That goes to dealing with people who are violating constitutional rights at the state and local government area."

Smith has brought two cases against former President Donald Trump. One involves classified documents found at his home in Mar-a-Lago and the other involves his efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election.

Trump has come out and said all these indictments are politically motivated and election interference.

DeSantis said that as the president, he would be able to take on the weaponization of the federal government, an area that many conservatives have voiced concerns about, according to The Hill.
