The Department of Homeland Security has collected more than $1 billion in payments from issuing fines to illegal immigrants, Fox News reported, citing a "DHS official."

Collectively, the DHS has issued roughly 103,000 total fines, for an amount of $84 billion in total due.

The agency issued these fines to illegal aliens subject to final removal orders, adding additional penalties for every day that passes without their voluntary exit.

The effort comes as the administration has struggled to implement President Donald Trump's mass deportation agenda to remove as many as 22 million illegal aliens from the country.
