Sen.-elect Abdul El-Sayed, D-Mich., expressed a willingness to work with President Donald Trump on a plan to end annual military aid to Israel after the commander-in-chief said Israel would accept the end of aid.

El-Sayed campaigned as a critic of Israel and its conduct in the Gaza war. Public opposition to continued American entanglements in the Middle East and, with Israel more specifically, has grown considerably in recent years. Israel receives roughly $4 billion in aid from the U.S. each year.

Speaking on MS Now's "Morning Joe", El-Sayed said “I don’t think that we should be continuing to subsidize a foreign military that has done the worst things with our money. I agree."

"I’d love to work with him on doing that. In fact, I don’t know that we should be continuing to sell weapons to a country that is, again, using our weapons to do awful things,” he went on.

Israel has faced accusations of orchestrating a genocide in Gaza and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently the subject of an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC). International opinion on the matter is divided, though the U.S. rejects the characterization of Israel's actions as a genocide.
