Harris to appear in first event on campaign trail with Biden, first joint interview with Walz
Harris's presidential campaign confirmed that Biden will join Harris for an event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Monday, Sept. 2. Harris will also campaign in Detroit, Michigan on Labor Day.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, will appear for their first joint campaign trail event since Harris replaced Biden on the presidential ticket on Labor Day.
Biden withdrew from the Democratic presidential race last month, after facing pressure from members of his party, and endorsed Harris.
Harris's presidential campaign confirmed that Biden will join Harris for an event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Monday, Sept. 2. Harris will also campaign in Detroit, Michigan on Labor Day but Biden will not be with her for that event. Both Pennsylvania and Michigan are considered crucial swing states in 2024.
The campaign said the Pittsburgh event will focus on their support for unions, according to The Hill. Harris has earned endorsements from several major unions, including from the United Auto Workers.
The event will underscore "the importance of American workers and unions to building a strong middle class and growing the economy," the campaign said, per CBS News.
The event will be their first joint event on the campaign trail since Harris became the party's nominee. Biden and Harris previously appeared together appeared for a White House event to highlight savings on Medicare drugs.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Harris' running mate, will spend Labor Day in Milwaukee, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will be in Newport News, Virginia. Other Democratic leaders will also visit swing states on Labor Day, including Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.
Harris and Walz will also sit down for their first joint interview on Thursday, which will air on CNN at 9 p.m. Eastern. The interview will be conducted by CNN's Dana Bash.
