Blake Masters soars ahead of Arizona GOP Senate rivals: poll

Venture capitalist Blake Masters is ahead by a wide margin in the race to secure the Arizona Republican Party's nomination for Senate, according to a recent poll.

The latest Emerson College poll, released two days before the primary election on Tuesday, shows Masters with 40% support in a four-way race. He holds an 18% lead over nearest rival, Jim Lamon, another businessman in the state.

Attorney General Mark Brnovich took third place with 14% support while retired Major Gen. Mick McGuire took 12% support and a further 9% remain undecided.

Former President Donald Trump endorsed Masters in June, prompting a surge in support for the candidate.

Trump has also been extremely critical of Brnovich, whom he has accused of doing little to investigate voter fraud in his state related to the 2020 election. Arizona, traditionally a Republican stronghold, narrowly broke for now-President Joe Biden in 2020. The state, alongside Georgia and Pennsylvania, became one of the lightning rods for accusations of fraud.

The attorney general's refusal to impose harsh scrutiny on state electoral boards prompted Trump to say he "does not support clean and fair elections, or law and order, and could not properly represent the people of Arizona in the United States Senate."
