CPAC endorses McCormick for Pennsylvania Senate seat, after his 2020 primary loss to Trump-backed Oz
If he wins the GOP primary, McCormick will face Democrat Sen. Bob Casey in 2024.
The Conservative Political Action Conference has endorsed Republican David McCormick for the open Senate seat in Pennsylvania in 2024.
McCormick last year lost his GOP primary bid for the other Senate seat in Pennsylvania to Trump-backed Mehmet Oz.
Oz lost in the general election to then-Democrat nominee John Fetterman, resulting in the GOP losing the swing state seat held by Republican Sen. Pat Toomey.
If McCormick, a hedge fund CEO, wins the 2024 primary, he'll face incumbent Democrat Sen. Bob Casey.
"McCormick is a West Point graduate, combat veteran, and Bronze star recipient," CPAC says. "As a 7th generation Pennsylvanian, he has been a Pennsylvania job creator and a business leader. He is a national security expert and a strong and experienced voice for how to overcome the threat from China."
At a rally earlier this year, McCormick referred to Casey, a three-term senator, as a career politician who has been in Washington, D.C., for too long.
“I’m the only candidate in this race that can change Washington," he said. "And frankly, my opponent is part of the problem. He first ran for office almost 30 years ago. Bob Casey’s not going to change Washington. Bob Casey is Washington.”
