Cuomo to stay in NYC mayoral race, run as third-party candidate, in attempt to challenge Mamdani

Former NYC Gov. Andrew Cuomo has not given up on his chances to regain the city's top office.

Former New York City Gov. Andrew Cuomo is expected to announce a third-party bid in what would be his second attempt to contend with Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani for mayor.

In an effort to beat Mamdani, Cuomo will pledge to drop out of the race if he is not the leading candidate but asks that all other candidates do the same come mid-September.

The announcement comes after the self proclaimed “democratic socialist” Mamdani beat Cuomo in the Democratic primary by a considerable margin of 12-points last month.

Fearful of a Mamdani mayorship, Cuomo’s supporters have urged him to continue his campaign, according to the New York Times.

The announcement will be released in a video sometime this week, according to the New York Times.
