Democrat Eileen Laubacher held a narrow lead Wednesday morning over Republican incumbent Lauren Boebert in the U.S. House race in Colorado's 4th District.

Laubacher held 49.2% of the vote, and Boebert held 47.7%, with no clear winner projected, the Associated Press reported.

The district is considered a Republican stronghold in the state, and the last time a Democrat was elected to represent the district was in 2008. She was voted out after a single term, CPR News reported.

Boebert is running for a fourth term in Congress. In 2020, she defeated incumbent GOP Rep. Scott Tipton in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District, and she won reelection by only 546 votes in 2022.

Following controversies involving the end of her marriage, and a viral video when she and her date were asked to leave the Denver Performing Arts presentation of Beetlejuice in 2023, she moved across the state to the 4th District.

Laubacher has decades of military and public service. She was previously registered as a Republican, but she later became unaffiliated. Right before her deciding to run for Congress, she registered as a Democrat.
