Abigail Spanberger projected to win VA governor's race: AP

The Associated Press called the race at 8:00 p.m. at which time Spanberger led with 54.9% of the vote.

Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., on Tuesday was  projected to defeat Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, R-Va., in the race for the governor's mansion.

The Associated Press called the race at 8:00 p.m. at which time Spanberger led with 54.9% of the vote. Earle-Sears trailed with 44.5%, with 38% of precincts reporting.

The race was not expected to be competitive, though polls had narrowed in the lead up to election day. Votes were still being tabulated as of press time in the Old Dominion's down-ballot contests.
