Democratic National Committee employee says Green Party is ineligible for Wisconsin ballot
This is not the first time the Green Party has had issues in the state of Wisconsin.
An employee at the Democratic National Committee filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Elections Commission alleging that the Green Party is ineligible to be on Wisconsin's presidential ballot.
The DNC deputy operations director in Wisconsin, David Strange, filed the complaint arguing that since the Green Party doesn't have a state officer who would qualify as a nominator, a presidential elector cannot be chosen.
According to The Washington Examiner, the Green Party could have done a write-in campaign but chose not to.
“Because the Wisconsin Green Party hasn’t fielded candidates for legislative or statewide office and doesn’t have any current incumbent legislative or statewide office holders, it cannot nominate candidates and should not be on the ballot in November,” senior adviser to the DNC Adrienne Watson said, according to the outlet.
The party is expected to formally nominate Jill Stein as their candidate at their virtual national convention being held this weekend. The party also nominated her as their presidential candidate in 2012 and 2016.
This is not the first time the Green Party has had issues in the state of Wisconsin.
The status of the Green Party was challenged in the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The party was rejected from being on the ballot two months before the 2020 election.
