DOJ charges 16 aliens for alleged election crimes
Collectively, they hailed from Italy, the Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, North Macedonia, Liberia, Lithuania, Ghana, Germany, Bosnia, Brazil, Canada, and South Africa.
The Department of Justice on Monday announced charges against 16 foreign nationals for alleged election crimes across several states.
All 16 people were lawful permanent residents charged with illegally voting. In Florida, two aliens were charged. Three more were charged in Louisiana, while one was charged in Wisconsin, and 10 were charged in Minnesota.
Collectively, they hailed from Italy, the Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, North Macedonia, Liberia, Lithuania, Ghana, Germany, Bosnia, Brazil, Canada, and South Africa.
The crackdown comes ahead of the November midterms elections and as the Trump administration works to combat fraud across the nation. Foreigners illegally voting has been a focal point for Republican criticism of Democratic policies on immigration.
