Economy, immigration dominate issues for NH voters: surveys
Both CNN and CBS found primary voters deeply divided over the legitimacy of President Joe Biden's 2020 election win.
With polls in the New Hampshire Republican primary set to close on Tuesday evening, exit polling and voter analysis suggest that immigration and the economy rank among the top issues for voters in the Granite State.
New Hampshire notably permits independent voters to participate in the Republican primary.
A Fox News voter analysis showed 41% of New Hampshire Republicans pick immigration as their top issue, with 31% choosing the economy or jobs. Eight percent chose foreign policy while 5% chose abortion. The outlet further found that only 28% believed immigrants help the country, while 69% believed they hurt it.
A CBS News exit poll similarly identified immigration and the economy as the top issues for primary voters. CNN exit polling uncovered the same sentiment. On the economy, both surveys found that voters overwhelmingly view it poorly. Sixty-nine percent in the CBS survey rated the economy as "not good" while "about 7 in 10" in the CNN survey said the same.
Both CNN and CBS found primary voters deeply divided over the legitimacy of President Joe Biden's 2020 election win, with respondents split 49%-49% on the matter in the CBS exit poll. CNN found that "roughly half" considered the election legitimate.
