Organizers on Monday submitted signatures to the Wisconsin Election Commission in an effort to oust state Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos over his criticism of former President Donald Trump.

A spokesperson with the Wisconsin Election Commission confirmed to Just the News on Monday that signatures were submitted in the effort to recall Vos.

Recall campaign supporters say they gathered more than the 6,850 signatures that are required from voters in Vos' southeast Wisconsin district to force a recall.

"With more than 10,000 signatures on our recall petition, they’ve said it loud and clear: they’re tired of the status quo and demand new representation," recall campaign organizer Matt Snorek said, according to The Associated Press

A picture from the Wisconsin State Journal shows Snorek with boxes filled with paperwork as he submitted the signatures Monday.

The Wisconsin Election Commission has 31 days from the date that the signatures are submitted to issue a certificate of sufficiency to trigger a recall. However, the process may not be so smooth, as challenges can be filed and commission decisions can be appealed.

The commission is scheduled to have a virtual meeting on Tuesday to discuss the recall petition.

Vos, meanwhile, commented on the effort by reposting a comment on X, formerly Twitter, from Wisconsin GOP Executive Director Emeritus Mark Jefferson, who called the organizers "Democrats" and said, "To call them anything else is misleading at best."

Vos has butted heads with Trump in the past, such as when he refused to decertify Biden's 2020 win in the state.
