Harris-Walz campaign brings in $36 million in first 24 hours since announcing VP pick
Campaign officials celebrated the large haul as one of the biggest fundraising days of the 2024 election cycle, and comes shortly after the vice president raised $200 million for her White House bid in the week after President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race.
Vice President Kamala Harris's presidential campaign announced Wednesday that it raised a total of $36 million in the first 24 hours since announcing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.
Harris, who is the official Democratic nominee for president, selected Walz as her vice president on Tuesday over Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly.
Campaign officials celebrated the large haul as one of the biggest fundraising days of the 2024 election cycle, and comes shortly after the vice president raised $200 million for her White House bid in the week after President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race, according to The Hill. Biden endorsed Harris almost immediately after.
Harris claimed that her decision to elevate Walz from governor to vice president was because of the quick rapport and chemistry the pair had. But Harris said it was also because of his background as someone born in the Midwest, and because of his policies.
"[Walz is a partner] that can help build this brighter future, a leader who will help unite our nation and move us forward, a fighter for the middle class, a patriot who believes, as I do, in the extraordinary promise of America, a promise of freedom, opportunity and justice, not just for some, but for all," Harris said in a statement, per CBS News.
Harris and Walz appeared together in Philadelphia on Tuesday, and will continue to make joint appearances on the campaign trail this week in crucial swing states like Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada and Arizona.
