Iowa GOP chairman predicts strong turnout for caucus despite freezing weather
Despite the cold weather, Iowa GOP Chairman Jeff Kaufmann predicted a “robust turnout."
The chairman of the Iowa Republican Party predicts that caucus turnout will be high, despite the freezing weather and the snow.
“I really think now – as long as there’s no ice that actually makes it impossible to travel and as long as we don’t have whiteout conditions, snow actually falling – I think temperatures are the least of my concern in terms of depressing turnout. Iowans know how to dress for that,” Chairman Jeff Kaufmann told reporters Sunday.
Local media reports that Monday will be the coldest day for the caucuses in recent history with an expected high of -2 degrees.
Despite that, Kaufmann predicted a “robust turnout," according to The Hill.
The blizzard warning in the Hawkeye state caused GOP presidential candidates such as former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley and former President Donald Trump to cancel campaign events and rallies and instead, host tele-rallies and virtual town halls.
Trump picked up endorsements right before the Iowa caucus from North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.
Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis picked up multiple endorsements from faith leaders in Iowa prior to the caucus.
