New York Gov. Kathy Hochul calls Trump and GOP voters 'anti-American' and 'anti-women'
This attack follows President Joe Biden’s calling Trump supporters “garbage,” and drew immediate backlash.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said on Saturday that New Yorkers who vote for Republican House candidates are “anti-American” and “anti-women.”
“If you’re voting for these Republicans in New York, you are voting for someone who supports Donald Trump and you’re anti-women, you’re anti-abortion, and basically, you’re anti-American,” Hochul said on MSNBC, according to the New York Post.
“You just trashed American values and what our country is all about — over and over.”
This attack follows President Joe Biden’s calling Trump supporters “garbage,” though the White House tried pulling that back by putting in the White House transcript “supporter’s” with an apostrophe before the “s” so they could claim he only meant it about one person, the insult comedian who spoke at the Trump rally at Madison Square Garden.
Her comments drew immediate backlash. “This is about as helpful as a severe migraine. It’s never a good thing to identify a large segment of voters as un-American,” said New York ex-Democratic Rep. Max Rose, who is working to get Democrats elected in House races.
“Kathy Hochul doesn’t represent a majority of Democrats — anywhere,” said Rose.
“She’s smearing at least one half of American voters and all Trump voters,” said New York state Republican Party Chairman Ed Cox.
Hochul had previously made derisive comments about New York state’s more than five million Republicans. In 2022, she told them, “just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong. OK? Get out of town. Because you don’t represent our values,” according to the Post.
