Republicans rack up election night wins across NY – from Long Island to Utica

Republicans scored several big wins Tuesday night across liberal-leaning New York – from Long Island to Utica – despite having underperformed in Ohio and Virginia.
In the northern city of Troy, Republican Carmella Mantello was elected the first female mayor, after eight years of Democrat leadership under Mayor Patrick Madden.
Some of Mantello's top priorities include reducing crime and improving the quality of life, according to local news.
Republicans won another mayor race in the New York's upstate region – when Republican Michael Galime unseated Utica Democrat Mayor Robert Palmieri.
On Long Island, the state's Atlantic Coast, the GOP won two key races – a state Assembly seat in Nassau County and a county executive seat in Suffolk County.
Republican Ed Romaine defeated Democrat David Calone for the Suffolk seat held by a Democrat who was not seeking reelection.
In New York City, two Republicans won reelection to the City Council – Vickie Paladino in District 19 of Queens and Inna Vernikov in District 48 of Brooklyn.
