North Dakota GOP governor poised to enter 2024 Republican presidential primaries, report

Burgum won his gubernatorial re-election in 2020 with two thirds of the votes cast in his favor.

North Dakota GOP Gov. Doug Burgum may be eyeing a 2024 presidential bid, according to reports.

Reuters reports that Burgum, who is currently serving his second term as North Dakota's governor, will throw his hat into the presidential ring soon.

The 66-year-old Burgum won his gubernatorial re-election in 2020 with two thirds of the votes cast in his favor.

He was a tech entrepreneur before entering politics, having built a successful software business that he sold to Microsoft in 2001, according to Reuters. He is planning to run as a traditional conservative, advocating low taxes and fewer regulations.

If Burgum declares, which he is expected to do on June 7, he will join the pool of candidates in the GOP primary that includes former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former President Donald Trump.
