Prominent pollster says most Americans aren't thinking about the next election right now
'I remind people that early presidential polls are almost meaningless,' Rasmussen said.
Prominent pollster Scott Rasmussen said Wednesday that the average American isn't as focused on politics or the upcoming 2024 presidential race as many in politics think.
"People in the political world think everybody is already obsessed about the next presidential election because they are," he said on the Wednesday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "Most Americans are not thinking about it. They're not engaged in the way we would expect them to be."
During a Georgia GOP convention last weekend, former President Trump said during a speech that the indictment has only been helping his poll numbers."
“It’s a horrible thing. It’s a horrible thing for this country,” Trump said about the indictment, according to The Hill. “I mean, the only good thing about it is, it’s driven my poll numbers way up. Can you believe it?”
Rasmussen noted that early polling shouldn't be taken too seriously.
"I remind people that early presidential polls are almost meaningless," he said. "In 2015 around the time when President Trump was coming down the escalator, Jeb Bush was leading in the primary polls on the Republican side."
"So these early polls are reflecting what's going on right now," he later said, referring to Trump's lead over primary opponents. "They're not necessarily reflective of what will happen when voting begins."
