Rep. McClintock: American liberty is only one election away from extinction
California congressman says Democrats' publicly stated aims would fundamentally alter America if their party captured both the presidency and Congress in November.
Rep. Tom McClintock believes that the future of American liberty hinges upon the outcome of the November election.
"Well, Ronald Reagan once said that freedom could be lost in a single generation. I think it could be lost in a single election," the California Republican during an interview on the John Solomon Reports podcast.
McClintock said that based on Democrats' publicly stated aims, America would undergo a transformational shift if the party gained power over both the presidency and the Senate during the impending general election.
McClintock asserted that Democrats would "abolish the cloture vote so that the minority will have no say in the Senate." He said they would "pack the Senate" by admitting new states into the union that would be solidly Democratic jurisdictions.
He said Democrats would act to undermine the electoral college system: "They'll ratify the state compact that bypasses the electoral college to assure that rural states will have virtually no say in electing a president."
During the interview McClintock decried government officials' wrongdoing during the Trump-Russia investigation.
"This country was torn apart and dragged through hell because of manufactured, partisan, deliberate lie," he declared.
"The intelligence committee finding out there was no Russian collusion, well I guess my response is, 'Thank you Captain Obvious,'" McClintock said in reference to a newly released Senate committee's report.
