Republican Eric Hovde launches bid to unseat Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Baldwin
Hovde said he's running because he believes the country needs "to come together and find common sense solutions to restore America."
Republican businessman Eric Hovde launched his bid to unseat Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin, with his platform highlighting major issues such as the cost of living, health care, immigration and national security.
"Do you feel like America is slipping away? Our country is facing enormous challenges: Our economy, our health care, crime and open borders. Everything is going in the wrong direction. All Washington does is divide us and talk about who's to blame and nothing gets done," Hovde, a real estate mogul, opened his first campaign ad. "That's not the country I know and love."
Hovde also said he's running because he believes the country needs "to come together and find common sense solutions to restore America."
The issues section of his campaign website ties Baldwin to President Joe Biden's policies.
For example, under the issue of the economy, Hovde's campaign states: "Since the end of the 2020 fiscal year, President Biden and Senator Baldwin have added over $7.3 trillion of debt, more than the first 228 years of our nation’s history combined."
Under foreign policy, the campaign states: "The Biden Administration and Senator Baldwin have fueled the worst border crisis in our nation’s history."
Baldwin, who is seeking a third term as senator, most recently won reelection to her seat with 55.4% of the vote in 2018, per Politico. The seat is critical to Democrats in 2024 who hope to maintain their control of the Senate.
