Rev. Samuel Rodriguez says Trump will secure more Latino support than in the 2016 election
"Right now we're looking at 36-38% worst case scenario," Rodriguez said.
President Trump will earn a higher percentage of the Latino vote during the 2020 presidential election than during the 2016 contest, according to Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.
In an interview on Monday's episode of "The Water Cooler," Rodriguez said that the Republican incumbent will enjoy a six to eight point jump over his 30% share of the Latino vote during the last cycle. Regarding the 2016 election, Rodriguez said that "28% is a lowball number, 30% is the actual exit poll number."
"Right now we're looking at 36 to 38% worst case scenario," he continued.
Rodriguez said that Trump will secure a larger percentage of support from Latino evangelicals than during the previous election.
He praised the president's record on the pro-life issue, as well as on religious liberty and criminal justice reform.
"Home ownership during the Trump administration for Latinos has reached record-breaking numbers," he added. "Home ownership, the number of Latinos attending college, graduating from college, all of these are at record-breaking number highs. These metrics are unprecedented during the Trump administration."
