Romney will 'stay quiet' on whether he'll vote for Trump
The Atlantic has previously reported that Romney indicated he will not vote for Trump during the 2020 election
Republican Sen. Mitt Romney has declined to say who he'll vote for during the upcoming presidential election.
“I’m not going to be describing who I’ll be voting for, I don’t imagine,” the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee told reporters on Monday, according to news reports. “My plan is to stay quiet on that.”
According to The Atlantic, Romney has previously indicated that he will not cast his vote to elect incumbent Republican President Donald Trump.
"Though he said he won’t make an endorsement in this year’s presidential election, Romney was clear that he will not cast a ballot for Trump," the magazine's McKay Coppins wrote in February.
Romney did not vote for Trump or Clinton during the 2016 election, but instead voted for his wife. The Utah senator told Coppins, "She’ll probably get [a] second vote."
Romney voted to convict on one of the articles of impeachment against Trump.
Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski recently earned the wrath of the president after she made comments about "struggling" over the issue of supporting him.
"I cannot live in fear of a tweet," Murkowski said recently.
Last week former Defense Secretary James Mattis issued a statement published by The Atlantic in which he said Trump "tries to divide us" and said that the nation has faced a three-year dearth of "mature leadership."
