Trump ally calls on GOP to delay funding fight with Dems until 2025: report
His bottom line is that a funding bill that extends to next February or March would take some big GOP disagreements off the table ahead of the November election.
Former President Donald Trump's ally Russell Vought called on Senate Republicans in a meeting Wednesday to delay the 2024 government funding fight to 2025 so that Trump has better options available to implement his agenda if he wins the election in November.
The move could help clear the way for Trump to get off to a fast start with his agenda, according to an exclusive report from Axios.
Vought was the director of the Office of Management and Budget when Trump was president.
GOP senators who attended the meeting included Mike Lee of Utah, and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.
Vought reportedly gave a rundown of Trump policies that would be his top priorities. Sources told Axios that senators pitched ideas for Trump policies during the meeting.
Vought stated that Democrats could “use the appropriations process in the late summer and early fall to hamstring a future Trump administration — blocking him from using funds to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, for example.”
His bottom line is that a funding bill that extends to next February or March would take some big GOP disagreements off the table ahead of the November election.
