Trump to attend Wyoming rally this weekend for top Cheney GOP challenger Hageman
Trump is backing trial lawyer Harriet Hageman is his effort to deny Cheney a fourth, two-year term
President Trump will attend a rally Saturday in Wyoming in support of his preferred candidate to unseat GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, among the former president's most outspoken congressional Republican critics.
Trump has endorsed attorney Harriet Hageman, in an effort to deny Cheney a fourth term. He is scheduled to be joined by loyal House GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz, of Florida.
Trump so far this midterm election cycle – which will determine whether the GOP can take control of the House and perhaps Senate – has had some big wins and loses.
Cheney voted to impeach Trump after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and helps lead House Democrats' special committee investigating the matter.
While Cheney is mostly unpopular within the House Republican Conference and among Trump supporters nationwide, she has support from state voters, as Wyoming's only House member, and she has a large campaign coffer.
However, a new survey on her August primary, commissioned by the conservative, anti-tax group Club for Growth, which is backing Hageman, shows Hageman with 56% of the vote, compared to 26% for Cheney and 12% for state Sen. Anthony Bouchard.
