Trump strongly endorses Rep. Stefanik, says she is 'smart' and 'tough'

Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has endorsed Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., in New York's upcoming primary race.

"Elise Stefanik is SMART, STRONG, and TOUGH—she has my Complete and Total Endorsement!" Trump wrote on TRUTH Social Friday evening.

Stefanik is chairwoman of the Republican conference and was first elected to Congress in 2014. She has made headlines over the past few months for her tough questioning of the heads of Ivy League universities about antisemitism on college campuses. 

According to some media reports, Stefanik is a potential candidate to be Trump's pick for vice president.

”President Trump understands that he knows that I am a fighter and that I stand up very strong for my district and for the America first movement every single day. I would be honored to serve in a future Trump administration in any capacity, I’ve said that for over a year,” she said during a press conference. 

In his endorsement of Stefanik, Trump said she has been "fantastic" for her constituents in New York.  

"An America First Patriot, Elise is Fighting to Protect ourCountry against the Marxists, Fascists, and Communists on the Radical Left. Elise is working hard to Support our Great Military & Veterans, Grow the Economy and Lower Inflation, Promote American Energy, and Secure our under siege Sothern Border," Trump's TRUTH Social post reads.
