Trump turns Harris' slight against Christians into campaign ad
"While Kamala said that people who believe in Jesus don’t belong to her rallies, in our Movement—We love Christians, we welcome believers, and we embrace followers of Jesus," the former president said in a caption with the ad.
Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday turned Vice President Kamala Harris' slight against Christians into a short campaign ad that welcomed the voting bloc.
Harris has faced criticism over a comment she made at a campaign stop in Wisconsin last week, where she appeared to quip that protesters who shouted "Jesus is Lord" were at the "wrong rally." The White House's official transcript indicated the comment was directed to hecklers who shouted that her comments on abortion were "lies."
Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has attempted to woo Christian voters since the debacle last week.
"While Kamala said that people who believe in Jesus don’t belong to her rallies, in our Movement—We love Christians, we welcome believers, and we embrace followers of Jesus," the former president said in a caption with the ad.
Harris' comment is reminiscent of a comment from Republican Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake, who told Republican voters that supported the late Arizona Sen. John McCain to "get the hell out" of her rally in 2022.
