Trump won't be able to match Biden's fundraising numbers, campaign advisers say
The adviser said that Biden has "billionaire" Democrat donors while Trump doesn't.
Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump won't be able to catch or match incumbent Democrat President Joe Biden in fundraising, the Trump campaign reportedly says.
"We're never gonna be able to raise dollar-for-dollar with Biden," an unnamed campaign adviser told reporters on call Thursday, according to Reuters.
A second adviser said the campaign is "fueled by hundreds of thousands of grassroots contributors across the country, and I'd much rather have that because each one of those votes."
The Trump campaign and another committee raised $20.3 million in February while the Biden reelection campaign raised $53 million during that time, the wire service also reports.
On Thursday, Biden hosted a major, star-studded fundraiser in New York City that raised over $25 million, according to Yahoo News.
Another GOP operative expressed concerns about the GOP fundraising problem.
“It’s untenable,” the operative said, according to The Daily Beast. “It’s one thing to be out-raised by $5 or $10 million total. It’s quite another where you’re out-raised by multiples. That has a real effect on your efforts to run a national campaign, hold events, and have staff to actually do basic blocking and tackling.”
