Virginia Democrat official questions delay of 100,000 voter registrations

Democrat Sen. Lionell Spruill of the 5th District of Virginia questioned the Virginia Department of Elections for not being transparent regarding the cause of delays in processing roughly 100,000 voter registrations with midterms approaching, the Epoch Times reports. 

Sen. Spruill wrote to the elections commissioner, Susan Beals, on Thursday, asking for an explanation for the delay.

This was after Beals said that "intermittent network issues" were the cause of the problem. Beals' statement said that 107,000 voter registrations had been sent to local registrars for processing "to ensure voters can be appropriately registered to vote," according to the outlet. 

"The issue is now resolved and all impacted registrations have been identified," the statement read. 

Spruill responded in a letter that was shared by Sen. Scott Surovell of the 34th District of Virginia via twitter:

"In the future, when difficulties like these arise, the chairpersons of the Senate and House privileges and elections committees should receive notification so that we are fully informed as part of our responsibility to oversee the operations of your department," Spruill's letter stated. 

The letter also noted that Spruill has been "very concerned that the department has not been forthcoming to the public."
