GOP Rep: Party must focus on security, economic issues, not Dems' obsession with Trump

With the 2022 midterm elections coming up, many Republican elected officials and party operatives are urging GOP candidates to keep their focus on economic and security issues instead of being sidetracked by Democrats' obsession with former President Donald Trump. 

Despite a hostile media's obsessive focus on Trump, voters are concerned with real problems in the country, and Republicans need to acknowledge these issues and campaign on them, argues Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.). 

"They see it on the street," Scott said on "Just the News, Not Noise" on Tuesday. "I mean, they know the drugs in this country are a problem. They see the illegal immigration — they know that's a problem. They know the cartels control the border, and that's a problem. We've got a job to do as Republicans and making sure that the American citizens know that we want to fix these problems."

With inflation soaring, Citizens United President David Bossie is urging Republicans to stay focused on the economy.

"Republicans better return to the message very, very quickly," Bossie told "Just the News, Not Noise."

While Democrats have made political gains over the last two months, Bossie expects bad economic fundamentals — exacerbated by the Democrats' $740 billion Inflation Reduction Act, which Bossie called "lunacy" — will drag them back down well before voters head to the polls in November.

"[T]his lunacy that Joe Biden has pushed, is not going to help anything," said Bossie, Donald Trump's 2016 deputy campaign manager. "If anything, it's going to harm the economy. You have the student loan crisis — I call it a crisis, because it's a crisis for Americans who have to pay the bills for those who don't want to. So we're gonna have a lot of things play out, and we have to get back to that messaging."

Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson believes the damage wreaked by the Biden administration has been so severe that Democratic candidates are distancing themselves from the president.

"The fundamental transformation [effected by the Biden administration] is literally the fundamental destruction of this country," said Johnson. "And I wouldn't want to be close to somebody who's engineered that."
