Elon Musk announces 'content moderation council' after taking over Twitter
Musk has previously criticized Twitter's content moderation practices and promised to reinstate former President Donald Trump's account.
Tesla founder and now-Twitter owner Elon Musk has announced that he would create a "content moderation council" with "wildly diverse viewpoints" before he made any decision about content policy or reinstating accounts.
The tweet came one day after Musk completed his purchase of the social media giant. Reports emerged on Thursday that Musk had consolidated control of the company and fired CEO Parag Agrawal and CFO Ned Segal.
Musk has previously criticized Twitter's content moderation practices and promised to reinstate former President Donald Trump's account.
The world's richest man announced in late April that he had negotiated a deal to purchase the platform for $44 billion, though he later reneged on the purchase prompting Twitter to sue him to complete the deal. Amid a contentious legal battle, Musk offered to honor his original deal and buy the company at the agreed upon price.
Prior to completing the purchase, Musk told investors that he would cut roughly 75% of the 7,500 Twitter employees and run the firm on a 2,000-person workforce. He also told employees that "work expectations would be extreme" under his leadership.
