Activists vandalize Christmas tree displays to show outrage over global climate summit outcome
“We’re racing full speed towards catastrophe and our governments are failing miserably to pull the emergency brake in Dubai,” Last Generation said on X.
Climate activists in a coordinated attack Wednesday vandalized public Christmas tree displays in Berlin and six other German cities.
The activists, associated with the group the Last Generation, sprayed the decorated Christmas trees with orange paint to protest the lack of more drastic action at the global climate summit in Dubai, which ended Wednesday. Their attacks, according to Brietbart.com, were all timed to occur at 10 a.m.
“Amidst the flashing lights, shiny jewelry and festive atmosphere, it’s easy to forget: We’re racing full speed towards catastrophe and our governments are failing miserably to pull the emergency brake in Dubai,” the group said on X.
The summit concluded with mixed opinions on whether world leaders had gone far enough to collective agree on how to stop or slow global warming, included cutting back on the use of fossil fuels.
A police spokesperson told the German newspaper Bild that no arrests have been made at the time of the reporting.
The group has a history of using the holidays for protest stunts. Last year, the group attempted to hijack a televised Christmas service in Germany, but their plans were foiled when police intercepted their plans.
